In 1998, in view of the increasing popularity of golf and in order to augment the sources of income, the Board of Directors of the then HKSDB endorsed the conversion of a relatively underused baseball/softball court and a grass soccer pitch into a golf driving range. Ths Hong Kong driving range, which formally started operation in December 2001, has 32 bays and is still a facility of the Hong Kong Sports Institute. It mainly caters for young golf players and beginners wanting golf lessons in Hong Kong and it is also open for public use.

Golf Driving Range was found in 1964 and located in Causeway Bay, down town of Hong Kong Island. The Tuen Mun Golf Centre, which was commissioned on 26 February 1995, is the first public golf driving range in Hong Kong. Covering an area of 48 500 square metres, the main facilities of the Golf Centre include a 2-storey driving range with 91 bays, practice greens and bunker facilities. Individuals or groups may hire the golf facilities during opening hours. Besides, the Centre also offers golf training courses at different levels and related programmes each month for public participation.

The Wo Yi Hop Road Golf Driving Range Hong Kong, which was commissioned on 14 September 1995, is located at 298 Wo Yi Hop Road, Kwai Chung, N.T. (adjacent to North Kwai Chung Tang Shiu Kin Sports Centre). The venue is equipped with 15 driving bays and individuals or groups may hire the golf driving facilities during opening hours. Besides, it also offers golf training courses at different levels and related programmes each month for public participation and all golfers in Hong Kong.
