Kau Sai Chau Driving Range

Kau Sai Chau driving range at Kau Sai Chau Golf Course is a bit of a goat track and they definitely got it wrong here. Kau Sai Chau Gof Course is a joint development between the Hong Kong Government and the Hong Kong Jockey Club. $500 million was spent on the development and although they’ve done a pretty good job with the golf courses, they just completely lost the plot when it came to developing the Kau Sai Chau driving range, which is right at the clubhouse. There’s enough land out there to make something decent, instead, firstly, the bays you hit off are the smallest we’ve played in 30 years of golf in four continents. But that’s just the beginning.

Kau Sai Chau driving range actual range (where you hit to) is best described as a piece of dirt. It’s actually a small valley, and from the elevated bays, getting distances is almost impossible. It’s never been well maintained and it’s really not worth going out there JUST to hit balls at the range. It is however, okay to warm up before your round. Having said that, they do have quite a large putting green and a pretty good chipping green. There’s also another short game area but that’s reserved for lessons so we haven’t considered that. Kau Sai Chau driving range also has a small grass area for those players that like to hit off grass, but you’re hitting to the same goat track so it’s somewhat unsettling.

The good news is that Kau Sai Chau is in the middle (as of September 2014) of developing what is supposed to be a world-class golf academy which should have a much better range. Fingers crossed. The verdict on Kau Sai Chau driving range? Well have a go if you’re out there, but it’s not something you’d arrive 2 hours before your tee time for and have a good practice session on.

UPDATE: Kau Sai Chau Driving Range seems to be undergoing some kind of renovation/improvement program. It’s closed every Tuesday morning util 11.am and they seem to building a couple of greens and trying to improve the grass on the actual range.  Things could be looking up for Kau Sai Chai driving range!
